Hyde Park was created in
1536 and has been developed over the years in response to the wishes of the
royalty and the general public.
The two
most famous features of the park are the Serpentine, a large
lake used for swimming, boating and fishing; and
Rotten Row, the world famous riding track, which celebrated its
tercentenary in 1990.
There is a British tradition
at
Speakers Corner, that anyone can speak to the crowd that is
usually assembled, on any subject they wish. Stop by teh
park to listen.
Despite its heavy use,
Hyde Park manages to
convey an air of rural tranquility much valued by both tourists
and local users.
